Hi friends in this article we learn the topic Gang Milling Operation, its Advantages and Disadvantages this is important point in Milling machine operations.
Guy's this is important point in subject Machine Tools and Processes so without wasting of time let's see further information.
Gang Milling Operation, its Advantages and Disadvantages
Gang milling is the operation of machining several surfaces of a workpiece simultaneously by mounting a number of cutters on arbor as shows in the fig. The cutters may have same or different diameters and each produces it's own distinctive surface.
Gang milling is useful when sufficiently large number of work pieces are to be milled.
Gang Milling Operation, its Advantages and Disadvantages
When setting up for gang milling, the spindle RPM should be calculated on the basis of peripheral speed of cutter with largest diameter and feed rate based on the cutter with the smallest number of teeth.
Advantages
1) In this milling operation is quick.
2) Good surface finish.
3) Maintenance is easy.
4) Productivity is high.
Disadvantages
1) If speed is high lead to failure of tool.
2) Limited operations can be done.
So in this article we discussed the topic Gang Milling Operation, its Advantages and Disadvantages hope you understand well.
Thanks for reading it.
