Hi guy's in this article we learn about the topic Powder Metallurgy Process, Applications its Advantages and Disadvantages this is important topic in Gear manufacturing process in subject Machine tools and processes so let's start the further information,
Powder Metallurgy Process, Applications its Advantages and Disadvantages
This process is continuously growing process. Which gives greatest strength. Let's go for detail information,
Powder Metallurgy Process
In this process raw material in the form of metal powders is mixed with a suitable binder and forced under high pressure into a die cavity to take the desired shape of the gear. In this process parts are produced from the metallic powder. Sintering process is done at below melting point.
The compact is then taken out and sintered in furnaces to produce the necessary bond. The gears so produced may be further finished by coining. Coining helps to remove any distortion due to the heat treatment process and involves repressing the sintered gear in another die.
Powder metallurgy process also improves gear accuracy and surface finish. Gears of cast iron, steel, brass and other alloys can be produced by this process. Powder metallurgy process is automated for the economical production.
This process of producing gears by powder metallurgy is restricted to small size gears not more than 25 mm diameter.
Powder Metallurgy Process, Applications its Advantages and Disadvantages |
Larger gears are produced by powder metallurgy forging process. In this process powder metallurgy performs are forged to produce the final gear form. This gives strength and durability to gears. Gears produced by this method also do not require further finishing.
Gears produced by powder metallurgy have high dimensional accuracy and surface finish and find applications in electrical appliances, small motor drives, instruments and toys. Accurate gear pump rotors made of stainless steel can also be produced by this method.
Advantages Powder Metallurgy Process
1) Powder metallurgy not require finishing.
2) Process provide porosity and self lubrication.
3) In this process complex shapes can be produced.
4) Powder Metallurgy Process not require skilled operator.
Disadvantages Powder Metallurgy Process
1) Cost is high.
2) This method is economical for the mass production.
3) This process can not produce dense product.
4) Low fatigue property.
Applications Powder Metallurgy Process
1) Powder Metallurgy Process is used for making magnets.
2) Used for making dies and cutting tools.
3) This process is used for making machinery parts.
4) Manufacturing Gears, sprockets, fasteners, bearings cutting tools and various Machine parts etc.
So in this article we learn topic Powder Metallurgy Process, Applications its Advantages and Disadvantages hope you this information is useful for you.
