Hi guys in this article we learn the topic Shielded Metal Arc Welding It's working principle, Advantages, Disadvantages and Applications it is main type of welding process so we try the learn the process in detail information,

Shielded Metal Arc Welding It's working principle, Advantages, Disadvantages and Applications

In shielded Metal Arc Welding is refer to metal arc welding. Uses struck between the workpiece and metal electrode. This process is manually operated and use current source as AC or DC. This process is most common arc welding process used in general welding conditions. In western countries this welding process is commonly used.

For different materials electrodes are available and in different welding condition. Ferrous and non ferrous metals, alloys can be welded by this welding process with use of electrode. We use this SMAW welding process on to weld steels also, and to weld all position like horizontal, vertical, flat. Inexpensive welding method as compared to other welding processes.

As shown in fig. the weld metal and arc are covered by arc flame slag is generated and controlled by coating of electrode. Slag is generated by less speed.

Advantages and Disadvantages of SMAW let's see,

Advantages Shielded Metal Arc Welding

1) Cost is low and equipment is portable.

2) welding process is simplest.

3) Welding is done on any position and good quality.

4) Many alloys and metals are welded.

Disadvantages of Shielded Metal Arc Welding

1) If slag not remove properly, it remains in the joint leading poor weld quality.

2) Slow process.

3) It is difficult process.

4) Electrode material is wasted in the form of unused slag, are gas.

Applications of Shielded Metal Arc Welding

1) Used for welding of alloys and metals.

2) Use for repair work and maintenance.

So in this article we learned the topic Shielded Metal Arc Welding It's working principle, Advantages, Disadvantages and Applications hope you understand best.
