Comparison of TIG Welding and MIG Welding Processes |
In Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG) electrodes are used made by tungsten. So therefore this process is called Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process. In this process current source used DC supply depends on application.
In Metal Inert Gas Welding '(MIG) bare metal electrode is used. In MIG welding metal electrode is used in form of wire reel. In MIG welding process for current source AC or DC supply are used depends on application.
Sr.no | TIG Welding | MIG Welding |
1 | TIG welding is suitable for thin sheet metal. | MIG welding is suitable for thick sheet metal. |
2 | Rate of deposition in TIG welding is lower. | Rate of deposition in MIG welding is higher. |
3 | Lower cost. | High cost. |
4 | Welding speed is slower as compared with MIG welding. | Welding speed is high. |
5 | Required filler rod. | In this electrode is acts as filler rod. |
6 | With use of TIG welding dissimilar metals are joined. | With use of MIG welding only similar metals are joined. |
7 | Tungsten use as electrode material. | Consumable metals are use as electrode material. |
8 | It water cooled. | It uses air or water cooled. |
9 | In TIG welding only DC supply is used. | In MIG welding both AC and DC supply are used. |
10 | Produces superior quality of welding. | MIG welding not produces superior quality of welding as compared with TIG welding. |
So in this article we learned the topic Comparison of TIG Welding and MIG Welding Processes hope you understand well.
