let's discuss some basic information,

 Petrol Engine

In petrol engine is an internal combustion engine works on petrol as a fuel called petrol engine. It is works on otto cycle. Carburettor is used to to make the mixture of fuel and air.
Power produced in petrol engine is less as compared to diesel engine. Petrol engine works on two stroke or for stroke type. but mostly four stroke engine used because efficiency is better.

Petrol engine four stroke cycle
1) suction
2) compression
3) suction
4) exhaust

Diesel Engine

Diesel engine works on internal combustion engine used diesel as fuel called as diesel engine. In this fuel injector is used as to inject the fuel into the cylinder.
For combustion of diesel no spark plug is used. The heat of sir is use for ignition of diesel sprayed in the form of fog by the fuel injector. Power produced in the diesel engine as compared to petrol engine.

Diesel engine works on four stroke type
1) suction
2) compression
3) power
4) exhaust

       Diesel Engine

1Petrol engine uses mixture of air and petrol is ignited by spark. The fuel is fed into cylinder with fuel injector and mix with compressed air in inside cylinder.
2Petrol engine works on constant volume.Diesel engine works on constant pressure.
   3Producing less power.Producing high power.
4Petrol engines compression ratio is low.Diesel engines compression ratio is high.
5Spark plug is provided in petrol engines.Fuel injector is fitted in diesel engines.
6Fuel consumption is more.fuel consumption less.
7Initial cost is low.Initial cost is high.
8Problem of starting is less.Problem of starting is more.
9Initial cost is low.Initial cost is high.
10Low maintenance cost. High maintenance cost.
11Weight of petrol engines is lighter.Weight of diesel engines is heavier.
  12Occupied less space.Occupied more space.
13Pre ignition is possible.Pre ignition is not possible.
14Working on the otto cycle.Working on the diesel cycle.
15Fuel burns that high volatility.Fuel burns that low volatility.
16Petrol engines used in motor cycles, scooters and cars etc.Diesel engines used in heavy duty vehicles, trucks, two stroke marine engines etc.
