Hi guys in this article we learn the main Difference between Flywheel and Governor It is important topic in theory of machine subject, many questions comes on the topic Flywheel and Governor.
In engineering related exams and other types of competitive exams asking questions o flywheel and governor, so let's start the further information.
Difference between Flywheel and Governor
Flywheel
Flywheel is weighty wheel attached to rotating shaft for smooth power delivery from motor machine. Many flywheel used reciprocating engines power smooth power supply. It reduces fluctuation of speed, during the cycle but not maintain constant speed. Angular speed of flywheel increases then rotational energy also increases.
In flywheel there are many variations in speed of shaft, so to reduce the variations in energy there is requirement of flywheel.
Applications
1) Used in electric vehicles for boost power.
2) Flywheel used in small generators in internal combustion engine.
3) It is used in automobile engines.
Governor
Governor is a speed control device, it's main function is to control speed with load variations.
For incase load on engine decrease, speed increases which require less supply of fuel. So the governor automatically maintain the supply of fuel with varying load conditions and keep the mean speed constant.
The governors are classified
centrifugal governors, Pickering governors, hydraulic governor, pneumatic governor
Applications
1) It is used in internal combustion engine.
2) Governors used in steam turbines.
3) Used in cars to limit the speed.
