Hi guys in this article we learn the main Difference between Flywheel and Governor It is important topic in theory of machine subject, many questions comes on the topic Flywheel and Governor.

In engineering related exams and other types of competitive exams asking questions o flywheel and governor, so let's start the further information.

Flywheel

Flywheel is weighty wheel attached to rotating shaft for smooth power delivery from motor  machine. Many flywheel used reciprocating engines power smooth power supply. It reduces fluctuation of speed, during the cycle but not maintain constant speed. Angular speed of flywheel increases then rotational energy also increases.

In flywheel there are many variations in speed of shaft, so to reduce the variations in energy there is requirement of flywheel.

Applications

1) Used in electric vehicles for boost power.

2) Flywheel used in small generators in internal combustion engine.

3) It is used in automobile engines.

Governor

Governor is a speed control device, it's main function is to control speed with load variations.

For incase load on engine decrease, speed increases which require less supply of fuel. So the governor automatically maintain the supply of fuel with varying load conditions and keep the mean speed constant.

The governors are classified

centrifugal governors, Pickering governors, hydraulic governor, pneumatic governor

Applications

1) It is used in internal combustion engine.

2) Governors used in steam turbines.

3) Used in cars to limit the speed.

Governor

1Flywheel is used for to stop fluctuation of energy and not maintain constant speed. For maintaining constant speed governor is used, whenever changes in load.
2Flywheel is rotating component.Governor is non rotating component.
3Flywheel is used for to control speed difference begin with adjust turning moment in the cycle.Governor is a device is used to calculate and adjust the speed of machine using in engine.
4Moment of inertia of flywheel is large.Moment of inertia of governor is small.
5It is not control the fuel supply.Controls the fuel supply.
6Flywheel is connected to crankshaft. It is not connect to crankshaft.
7In flywheel can not change speed of crankshaft. In governor use the limit the speed.
8Flywheel is heavy part of machine.Governor is lighter part of  machine.
9In this When energy is stored rotational speed increases in during supply of energy speed decreases.Under all load conditions mean speed is regulated.
10Energy is generated because flywheel is directly proportional to square of its angular speed. In governor there is no proportionality.
11Flywheel is used in machines such as rolling mill, punching machines, engines, tractors and heavy vehicles etc.Governors are provided in turbines and the engines.

So in this article we discussed the main Difference between Flywheel and Governor hope this article is useful for you.

Thanks reading it 🙏.
