The cutout space on these rolls allows the workpiece to be positioned for rolling matching impressions are cut on the surfaces of the upper and lower roll segments to draw out and shape the workpiece.

The workpiece is placed between the rolls which then turn to shape the workpiece. The rolls rotate one revolution at a time.

The roll segments may be provided with more than one set of grooves is moved to the second, rolled through the second set and so on until completion. Each set of grooves is made to do specific job. By this method bar stock can be drawn or charged into desired shape.

The process is rapid and used to prepare sections for forging machines or hammers for Further processing.

Applications

Forging rolls are used for completely forging parts like levers, leaf springs, knife, blades and axles.

Advantages

1) Strength is more.

2) Cost ls less.

3) Reliability is more.

4) Work better under heat.

Disadvantages

1) Does not produce complex parts.

2) Finishing process is required.
