Gear Drive

Gear drive are used for power transmitting applications. They are used to transmit power to driven piece of machine for changing of power that transmitted.

Belt Drive

Belt drive is a pair of pulley attached to parallel shaft connected by flexible belt. Used for transmission system uses flexible strip to transmit power.

Lower Efficiency: Due to friction and slippage, belt drives generally have lower efficiency (about 90-96%) compared to gear drives, which can reach up to 99%.


Limited Load Capacity: Belt drives are not suitable for very high torque or heavy-duty applications, whereas gear drives can handle much larger loads.


Shorter Lifespan: Belts tend to wear, stretch, and degrade over time, especially in high-temperature or harsh environments, resulting in a shorter lifespan than gears.


Temperature Sensitivity: Belts can become brittle or lose flexibility in extreme temperatures, affecting their performance. Gear drives are generally more durable under varying temperature conditions.


Larger Space Requirement: Belt drives typically require more space, especially for long-distance power transmission, while gear drives are more compact and suited for space-constrained designs.
