However, cast iron also has some disadvantages, such as being heavy and brittle, prone to rusting if not properly cared for, and reactive with acidic foods. It also requires seasoning before use and cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher.

Cast iron gives the following Advantages

2) Ic Engine, cylinder head, crank case, flywheel, differential, piston, pressure plate clutch, brake drum.

3) Valve body, dome covers, pipe fittings.

There are three main varieties if cast iron malleable, grey, austenitic.

Grey cast iron widely used. There is  Seven grades of cast iron.

Disadvantages Of Cast iron

Cast iron has many advantages, there are also some disadvantages to consider:

Brittle: Cast iron is relatively brittle, meaning that it can easily crack or break if subjected to heavy impact or stress.

Heavy: Cast iron is quite heavy compared to other materials, which can make it difficult to handle and transport.

Rust: Cast iron is prone to rusting if not properly cared for. This can be a problem in humid or damp environments.

Slow heating: Cast iron takes longer to heat up than other materials, which can make it less efficient for cooking.

Uneven heating: Cast iron can heat unevenly, which can result in hot spots and uneven cooking.

Reactive with acidic foods: Cast iron can react with acidic foods, such as tomatoes or citrus fruits, causing them to take on a metallic taste.

Requires seasoning: Cast iron needs to be seasoned before use, which can be time-consuming and require special care.

Drawbacks of cast iron-

1) Poor tensile strength compared with steel.

2) Cast iron not give any plastic deformation before failure.

3) No yield point.

4) Failure of cast iron parts unexpected and total.

5) Cast iron Parts are not suitable for permanent deformation is preferred over fracture.

6) Cast iron is brittle and poor resistance.

7) Machinability of Cast iron components is poor compared to components made by steel.
